The heart-warming rays of the sun reflect from the golden facade of the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, as if heaven itself blessed this holy place. This powerful architectural gem is located in historic Dubrovnik, where every stone tells stories of the past. Built in the 17th century to replace an earlier church destroyed by an earthquake, the cathedral stands proudly full of stories and legends. One such legend says that a rich English merchant, whose ship was saved from destruction in a storm, had the original cathedral built as a token of gratitude.
Today, the Baroque building is famous for its rich furnishings, including a winged polyptych decorated with a painting by the Venetian artist Titian. Discovering altarpieces and extraordinary religious relics, it seems as if each visitor is taking a step back to the Middle Ages as they absorb history.
When visiting the cathedral, you can't get over or around the wonderful view of the dome, which opens when you climb up the spiral staircase. The wealth and beauty of the cathedral has been the pride of the city for centuries and continues to be a place that attracts visitors from all over the world with its historical aura and enchanting beauty.
